San Miguel to Complete 31 Power Storage Facilities by The End of This Year
Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said on 5th that its power generation subsidiary SMC Global Power Holdings Inc. will complete its plan to build 31 rechargeable battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities in the country by the end of 2022. The total capacity will be 1 million kilowatts. SMC Global Power is investing a total of US$1 billion (about ¥116 billions) in the BESS project to stabilize the power supply in remote areas, but the project has fallen behind the original plan, which was to be completed last year. SMC Global Power is also building a solar power plant, a hydroelectric power plant, and a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired power plant.
