As the measures against the spread of new coronavirus have been eased, the first “Philippines Metropolitan Subway Project”, supported by Japan, is being restarted.
The project planned to alleviate serious traffic congestion,13 station buildings and 1 depot will be built on a 32.4 km subway section connecting Mindanao Road in the northern part of the metropolitan area and Southern Western Bictan where Aquino International Airport is located. Shimizu Corporation JV has three stations (Tandansora Station, Kirino Highway Station, North Avenue Station) and one depot in a section of 6.9 kilometers that will be partially opened first), planning to construct a shield tunnel with a total length of 9.3 kilometers.
The contract in November last year include the Tandansora station and depot, procurement of shield machines and excavation tunnel work, the construction period is 67 months. Second contract includes the construction of the main structures of Kirino Highway Station and North Avenue Station and the procurement of the shield segment. Construction period is 49 months. The shield work and the construction equipment work for 2 stations will be ordered for the third contract.
