IKEA’s First Store Opens With Limited Entries and Queues
On the 25th, Swedish furniture giant IKEA opened its first store in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Under normal circumstances, the store can accommodate 8,000 people at a time, but the number of visitors was limited to half due to measures against the new coronavirus. Even so, many customers queued up to visit the store. The first IKEA store was built on the site of the Mall of Asia (MOA), a commercial complex being developed by conglomerate SM Group, along the coast of Manila Bay in Pasay City. The five-story store has a floor space of 68,500 square meters, which is equivalent to about 1.5 of Tokyo Domes. The investment was about 7 billion pesos (about 15.8 billion yen) with approximately 1,700 employees.
