Classic Sightseeing Spot in Manila : Rizal Park
Rizal Park, is located in the heart of Manila and always crowded with locals and tourists. With a total area of 58 hectares, there are ponds, electric locomotives and play-set facilities that represent the land of the Philippines, as well as a Japanese garden and a Chinese garden.
At the entrance of the park is the monument of José Rizal, the hero of the independence movement, and it is protected by 24-hour guards. José Rizal was shot dead by Spanish troops on December 30, 1896, ending his 35-years life. His body is buried in the basement of the monument and he is still respected by many people. The monument is also the site of the Declaration of Independence from the United States on June 4, 1946. When a foreign dignitary visits the Philippines, it is customary to donate flowers here.
