Increased Flights to Restore Tourism, Relaxation of Movement Restrictions
With the relaxation of restrictions on going out and movement in Metro Manila in the Philippines, local airlines are moving to resume operations and increase flights. A recovery in tourism demand is expected toward the end of the year. Philippine low-cost carrier (LCC) Cebu Pacific Air announced on the 5th that more than half of its domestic flights are available for tourism purposes. Fully vaccinated individuals can use flights to 21 of the 33 destinations. Boracay Island (Aklan Province), Bohol Province, and Camiguin Island, where famous tourist destinations are located, are included. However, requirements are set at each point, such as the need to submit a negative proof of PCR test.
All crew members of flights operated by Cebu Pacific Airlines as of the 5th have completed vaccination. Meanwhile, LCC’s AirAsia and Philippine Airlines have resumed use for tourism purposes for those who have completed vaccination on nine routes such as Boracay and Central Cebu. Philippine Airlines (PAL) also announced that it will operate flights between Caticlan, the gateway to Boracay Island, to Manila and Central Cebu in November.
